The festival has grown exponentially over the years and each year brings something new and different. Sometimes there is a new venue, a new genre of artist, or a mix of multiple things. Last year we hosted our first Bring Your Own Venue and, we were so pleased with the results, we have two this year. We have a record number of venues this year and the logistics alone are frustrating. Besides a new string of shows and artists, what’s new for the 2019 Tucson Fringe Festival? What are the most significant changes? Visual Fringe This is the first year we are featuring a visual art element. Many Fringe Festival include visual art such as photography and painting and Tucson Fringe wanted to feature these artists as well. During the festival weekend, artists will have their work featured at the Steinfeld Warehouse for audiences to view in between performances. Each artist will have a two-foot by two-foot wall space to

More information about each of our venues will come as we get closer to the festival. Along with our official venues for the festival, we have two BYOV locations. What is BYOV? It means “Bring Your Own Venue.” Some artists choose to rent their own space that suits their specific needs during the festival. Links to each venue’s website are located on our 2019 Tucson Fringe Festival
We are still putting the finishing touches on our schedule and working out details with specific artists. We have a couple groups that are finding their own spaces to perform their show. We call this BYOV which means “Bring Your Own Venue.” Once we have those details we will announce that information. Yesterday we held our Lottery/Drawing party to choose artists for the festival in January. We used our complicated scientific process of drawing names from a hat, as we have done every year. This year was slightly different from previous years. We have over 60 applicants; a new record for Tucson Fringe. Last year we had 42 applicants, so this is a huge leap for us. Sadly, with a 30% increase in applicants, we could not increase the number of performers chosen by 30%. We have increased the number of performers from 20 to 25 this year. We hope to add more as we continue to grow. We broke another record for the Tucson Fringe this year with the number of applicants from our home town, Tucson. It should be made clear, at this time we do not favor local artists over out of town artists. Everyone has the same opportunity and chances of having their name drawn from the hat.
Our performance applications have closed, and the numbers look amazing. We had over 60 applicants with almost a third being from Tucson, AZ. Both these numbers are the highest they have ever been in the history of the Tucson Fringe Festival. We are still finalizing venue details, but we may have the most venues in the festival’s history. The 2019 festival will be the biggest to date and we cannot wait to see what our tenth year will look like. So, what comes next? What are the next steps in preparing for the festival? We are holding our lottery drawing to choose performers for the upcoming festival on Sunday, September 9, 2018. We use a complicated, scientific process to choose our list of performers. We draw names from a hat! We will have live videos on all the social medias and you can view the drawing event from anywhere in the world. Local performers, and anyone else who wants to,
