From the mid-30s to the mid-50s, Floyd Tillman was one of the most important figures in music, tying together jazz and country music, in addition to being hugely influential as player, vocalist, and songwriter. Although a member of the Country Music Hall Of Fame, he’s largely forgotten, despite hits as a performer and being the first country songwriter covered by Ella Fitzgerald, the Mills Bros, Bing Crosby, Ray Charles and even the Supremes. Using WW2 period instrumentation, Skip Heller and company reinvestigate this southwestern legend.
Skip Heller, 9:30pm Saturday, March 2.
